How To Find Your Windows 7 or XP Product Key From CD

If you lost your product key here is a very handy tip that can save you a lot of time. There is a way to get the Windows XP product code from the cd the only thing you have to do is follow the steps below, however with Windows 7 you will have to use a small program followed in the steps below:

Windows XP:

1. Right Click on the Windows XP CD-Rom Drive and select Explore.
2. Then open the folder I386
3. In the folder I386 find the file UNATTEND.TXT and open it.
4. Scroll down to the last line were you will find your product Code.

Windows 7:

First of all, Microsoft stores your Product Key or CD Key on your PC itself and it is not easy for a normal user to sift through the files and find it. However, there are software which do this job very well.

To do that, you have to install the Keyfinder tool from Jelly Bean (download link below).

Once you have download the Jelly Bean Keyfinder tool run it and it will display the CD Key to you along with the Product ID of your PC. You can then copy this information and use it to install Windows 7 on another OS.

Please make sure to store the Product/CD Key securely once you have extracted it from your OS. It will always come in handy later.
